Elks Country Estates sits on the southeast side of Rapid City near the Elks Golf Course. It is one of the quieter high end pockets in the city, and it is still actively building, which gives buyers options that most established neighborhoods cannot offer.
The housing stock
The core of the neighborhood is high end custom ranches and two-stories on lots running from about half an acre to a full acre. There are also townhomes for buyers who want the address and the finish level with less ground to maintain.
Custom builders are active here, so alongside resale homes there is usually something under construction or a lot available. That matters if you have a timeline that does not line up with the resale inventory, and it is worth comparing the true cost of building against buying before you commit either direction. Recent local market guides put the neighborhood roughly between $500K and $1.2M and above.
The setting
Golf course views are the draw for a lot of the lots, and the larger parcels give the streets an open feel that you do not get in a tighter subdivision.
The southeast side puts you close to the Highway 44 corridor, which shortens the run out to Ellsworth Air Force Base compared with the west side of town, something I bring up often with relocating clients.
