Golf course living
Public fairways, a private club, townhomes, acreage and new construction. Golf-course living looks wildly different across the Black Hills.
Golf-course living here is not one product. Red Rock threads custom homes through the pines around a public course. Hart Ranch puts townhomes on the fairway in one direction and horse acreage in the other. Meadowbrook is a city course with established west-side neighborhoods beside it, not a master-planned golf subdivision. Arrowhead is private and now has new construction coming out of the ground around it.
If golf matters to the move, start with the course, then decide how much of your daily life you actually want tied to it. These are the places I would drive first.
Arrowhead
The private club is the landmark. The real-estate story now is The 19th at Arrowhead, where Hills View Homes is actively building on Rapid City's west side.
Meadowbrook
Not a golf subdivision. Meadowbrook sits beside Canyon Lake, so this is the play if you want established west-side homes with a public course nearby.
Hart Ranch is really two searches
The golf village and the acreage are not the same buy. Village on the Green is where the course and homes overlap. Hart Ranch West is horse acreage and a seven-figure conversation. Same name, useless comps across the line.

These are not ranked from best to worst. This is the order I would use to show somebody how different golf-course living looks across the Black Hills.
- 01Rapid City
Red Rock
Public course, pines and newer custom homes. Red Rock Meadows and Red Rock Estates are two different price conversations under one name, so know which plat you are shopping before you compare anything.
- 02Rapid City
Elks Country Estates
Semi-private golf with a more managed neighborhood feel. On the course-side sections the association handles lawn care, garbage and exterior staining, which changes the ownership experience as much as the course does.
- 03Rapid City
Hart Ranch
Village on the Green is the golf-core option, with townhomes and houses tied closely to the course. Hart Ranch West is a completely different search, with horse acreage and seven-figure sales. Do not mix those comps.
- 04Spearfish
Elkhorn Ridge Golf Estates
The newer Spearfish option, built on the historic Frawley Ranch along Highway 85. City water and sewer, newer housing, and open lots still make it one of the easier places to build into the golf setting.
- 05Sturgis
Apple Springs
Boulder Canyon Golf Club has been public since 1948, and the new clubhouse put more life back into the course. Apple Springs still has substantial open ground, so the neighborhood is not finished changing.
Arrowhead is not a someday project anymore
Hills View Homes is marketing The 19th at Arrowhead beside the private Arrowhead Country Club. A Hills View home at 3622 Westridge Road was the featured home for the 2026 Parade of Homes, and the builder is advertising 25 available lots.
The builder's main community page still carries a Coming Soon label, so I would confirm the exact lot release, current pricing and build schedule before writing around a specific homesite. Buying nearby also does not automatically include Arrowhead club membership.

Golf is the easy part to compare. The harder part is deciding whether you want the course at your back fence, five minutes away, or simply on the route home. Tell me which version you mean and I will narrow the list fast.
