Talisker Avenue, Suntory Avenue, Top Shelf Avenue. The street names came off the back bar. It sits about two miles northwest of downtown Spearfish, inside the city limits, on ground high enough that the Lookout Mountain side of town shows up in the rear window on the way in.
Where it sits and what is on the ground
This is a new street grid, not an infill pocket. Lawrence County records 95 parcels in the Top Shelf plats, 72 of them carrying a house and 23 still bare. Lot recording runs 2018 through 2022, so the oldest house here is younger than most furnaces in town.
Lots are city lots. The middle half measures between about a quarter acre and four tenths of an acre, with a handful of larger remainder tracts on the edges waiting on a future phase. Yards are open and the trees are whatever the builder planted, which means wind off the northwest is something you feel on the deck before the shelterbelts catch up.
What to check before you write
City water, city sewer and city plowing come with being inside the limits, and Spearfish School District 40-2 serves the address. Covenants and any association dues are not published in the county parcel record, so ask the seller or the developer for the recorded documents and the current dues before you plan a shop or an RV pad.
On a house this new the inspection list is short and specific: grading and downspout runout on a lot that was scraped five years ago, driveway and foundation settlement, and whether the builder warranty transfers. Radon testing still belongs on the list, because a new build with a tight envelope is not exempt from it.

The outlines below are reference geometry from county records, not a survey. The recorded plat and a current survey control the exact lines for any one lot.

New construction terms
On a build, read the builder contract for the allowance schedule, change order pricing, completion timeline and warranty, because the purchase agreement is the builder's, not the standard state form.
Covenants and HOA documents
Read the covenants before you write, especially on outbuildings, RV and trailer parking, fencing, rentals and exterior materials.
Radon
The Black Hills sit on granite and radon levels here run high, so test during the inspection period and price mitigation into your offer if the number comes back elevated.
Read the full guideHail and roof age
Hail season here runs from late May through August, so ask for the roof age, the last claim history and any impact-resistant rating before you write.
Where the water goes
Walk the lot and look at how the ground falls away from the foundation, where the downspouts end and whether the low corner of the yard holds water. Ask a neighbor what the street does in a hard August rain.

On any address you are serious about, buyer due diligence should include the school assignment from the district, the water quality report from the utility that serves it, and the assessed value and levy from the county. Here are the sources for each one.
The sources, by category
Schools
Confirm the assigned school for a specific address with the district, because boundaries change and they change more often than people expect. Spearfish School District 40-2 · School and district profiles on GreatSchools · Preschools and private schools in the Black Hills
Drinking water
Every public water system publishes an annual water quality report. Read the one for the system that serves the address you are considering, not the one for the town next door. Rapid City water quality reports · City of Box Elder Water Division · City of Spearfish water · EPA drinking water lookup
Property taxes and assessed value
Lawrence County Equalization · Pennington County Equalization · Meade County Equalization
The county record, the plat and the recorded covenants are the three documents to read on any address here. I do not rate schools and I do not characterize neighborhoods as safe or unsafe. Those readings are yours to make from the sources above.
